Meet the family behind this month's Lantern Story: Chrissy and Mickey
In the small town of Elberton, 29-year-old Chrissy is fighting every day for a tomorrow with her family. She and her husband, Mickey, built a life full of laughter with their three children — Riley, age 10; Hazel, just 18 months old; and Axel, their tiniest fighter, born at just 26 weeks because of Chrissy’s cancer.
Her diagnosis — round cell undifferentiated sarcoma — came like a sudden storm, changing everything overnight. While pregnant with Axel, Chrissy learned she was battling a rare, aggressive cancer that threatened not only her life but his. Little Axel entered this world far too soon but full of fight, a symbol of his mother’s unwavering spirit.
Their journey since has been marked by terrifying nights in the ICU, 90 days at the Ronald McDonald House, and countless moments when it seemed hope might slip away. Through it all, Chrissy’s strength has remained — for Mickey, for Riley and Hazel, and for Axel, who shares the birthday and striking resemblance of Mickey’s father lost just one year before.
Even now, as the prognosis remains uncertain, Chrissy’s story shines with the light of resilience and the power of a mother’s love. She shares her journey on TikTok (@moma'scancerjourney), reminding the world that no family should fight alone.
This month, your support — whether it’s a tote bag, a sticker, or simply sharing her story — helps ease the crushing costs of treatment and gives this young family the one thing they hold tightest to: hope for more tomorrows together.
When one lantern flickers, we gather around to light it again.
Thank you for helping keep Chrissy’s light burning bright. 🕯️✨
